I agree. It's about loving a person's neshama, their soul, their essence, rather than their attributes or accidents, as Aristotle would refer to qualities that are present in something but are not essential to it.

That is why, for instance, "xxx"'s divorce did not surprise me -- the way she wrote about her husband made it clear that they prized each other for certain qualities and for fulfilling certain needs. If someone came along who was a better cook/dancer/earner/lover, they wouldn't hesitate to leave.

What's interesting to me is why some people prefer that approach."
